Living History

Need an engaging speaker for your school, church, or group? Invite Author and Living Historian Bryce A. Chandler to demonstrate life as a drummer boy and tell about the Christian faith in our War for Southern Independence.

Watch him re-enact the Civil War soldier in period costume.

Listen to the heart rending sound of his historical six-whole fife, and hear him call the troops to attention with the deep sound of the drum.

Feel like you have stepped into another time.

"It was a pleasure to have author and re-enactor Bryce Chandler visit the Germantown Regional History and Genealogy Center. I discovered that this young man is resourceful, talented, and engaging. Bryce presented a re-enactment of the life of a Civil War drummer boy, including Civil War songs on the fife and marches on a home-made drum. A few weeks after Bryce's appearance, one library patron shared that his 5-year old grandson was so impressed, that he still carries around his copy of Bryce's book everywhere he goes, and talks about being able to play the drum. The world needs more polite young men like Bryce Chandler."

"Bryce Chandler's Drummer Boy re-enactment is done historically accurate and very professional.  It is hard to imagine where a boy of his tender years can capture the emotions of that time era with such feeling and passion.  The added talent of beating the drums brings excitement to the children in attendance, but the adults will enjoy just as much.  I have personally seen and enjoyed Bryce's presentation and look forward to reading and reviewing his books."
